SMS shortcut
Does your bank notify you by text message? With an iPhone shortcut, every SMS from your bank is sent automatically to Finvot and AI turns it into a transaction.
What you need
- iPhone with the Shortcuts app (comes pre-installed).
- The latest version of the Finvot app.
- A recent SMS from your bank at hand (to identify its format).
⌛ Estimated time: ~5 minutes · One-time setup.
Step 1 · Create a new automation
Open the Shortcuts app on your iPhone
Go to Automations → tap +
Search for “Message” as trigger
Step 2 · Filter by your bank
In “Message contains”, type a word that always appears in your bank's SMS (e.g. Chase)
Change to “Run Immediately” — without this, iOS will ask you before every log
Check your bank's SMS messages and find a word that always repeats. That way the shortcut only triggers with bank alerts, not with all your messages.
Filter only by “Message contains”
Don't use the sender filter (the bank's number or name): iOS sometimes fails to match it correctly and the shortcut stops triggering. Use "Message contains" only.
Step 3 · Add the Finvot action
Choose “Create new shortcut”
In Search actions, search for “Finvot”
Select “Finvot - SMS”
If "Finvot" doesn't appear, make sure you have the latest app version.
Step 4 · Assign the variable
Tap on the “Message” field
In the bar above the keyboard, scroll right and select “Shortcut Input”
Tap the blue text “Shortcut Input” and choose “Message content”
Step 5 · Verify it works
In the shortcut, tap the “Play” button (bottom right)
You should see “Transaction Registered”
Return to Finvot and tap “Verify configuration” (Profile → Automate → SMS Shortcuts)
All set! 🎉
From now on, every SMS from your bank is sent to Finvot on its own and AI turns it into a transaction with amount, merchant, and date.
Trouble?
- "Test not detected" when verifying → run the shortcut from the Shortcuts app with the Play button and verify again.
- The shortcut doesn't trigger with real SMS → check that the filter word appears exactly in the bank's messages, and that the automation is set to "Run Immediately".
- The "Finvot - SMS" action doesn't appear → update the Finvot app from the App Store and restart the Shortcuts app.
