Trips
Trip Mode lets you plan a trip’s expenses separately —hotel, flights, food, tours— without mixing them into your everyday life. You build the plan, and when the trip begins you turn it on so your new expenses log themselves to the trip. In the end you see how much you planned vs how much you actually spent.
Find it under Profile → Trips.
Create a trip
Go to Profile → Trips and tap +
Name it (e.g. “Cartagena in December”) and set the destination
Pick the start and end dates, and the currency
Decide whether it counts toward your budgets (see below) and save
What is “Include in my budgets”?
This toggle decides whether the trip affects your budgets:
- On: the trip plan adds to your monthly Spending Limit and the trip shows up as another category (in Budgets and on Home).
- Off: you just plan it here; it doesn’t touch your budgets. Great for a trip you’re only starting to think about.
Build the expense plan
Inside the trip, add each expense you expect. Every one has a type (hotel, flights, trains, transport, food, attractions, sports, insurance, other) and a way to plan it:
| Way | When to use it | Example |
|---|---|---|
| Total amount | A one-off expense in a single month | Travel insurance: $150 |
| Per night / per day | A date range, per unit | Hotel: $300 × 4 nights |
| Price × quantity | Several identical units | Tours: $80 × 3 people |
| Every month | Something that repeats monthly | A scheduled trip savings |
| Round trip | Tickets with two dates | Flights: $2,000 (half outbound, half return) |
The plan shows two ways, with a toggle to switch:
- By category — a composition bar shows where the money goes (hotel, flights, food…) with each share.
- By month — groups expenses by the month they’re attributed to, with a subtotal per month.
How an expense splits across months
Finvot spreads each expense across the month (or months) it belongs to, so it lines up with your budgets:
- Single month → all of it to the month of the date.
- Per night / day → each night or day counts in its own month (a New Year’s hotel splits between December and January).
- Round trip → half to the outbound month, half to the return month.
- Every month → the amount repeats in each month of the range.
Turn on Trip Mode
When the trip begins, turn it on from the trip’s detail. While it’s on, your new expenses are automatically assigned to the trip —no need to pick anything— except the categories you exclude (rent, savings, subscriptions…), which keep counting as everyday life.
Open the trip and tap “Turn on Trip Mode”
Select the categories you do NOT want assigned to the trip
Confirm — from then on your new expenses go to the trip
Only one active trip at a time
You can’t have two trips active at once. If you turn on a new one, Finvot offers to close the one that was active.
Plan vs Actual
The trip’s Plan vs Actual tab shows, with a progress bar, how much you planned against how much you’ve spent so far —in total and by category— so you can see at a glance where you’re going over and where you have room.
How it looks in Budgets and on Home
If the trip counts toward your budgets:
- The monthly Spending Limit includes the trip plan.
- The trip shows up as its own card —with a Trip badge— both in Budgets and in the Home summary.
- If the trip is in another currency, its currency chip appears so you can see it separately.
Close a trip
When the trip is over, close it from its detail. Auto-capture turns off (new expenses go back to your everyday life), but the plan and what you spent stay saved so you can review them whenever you want.
